Mock Anything is a free, non-commercial passion project run by Shreyas Sawant, an independent developer. This page covers the website at shipatmidnight.dev/mockanything and the Mock Anything tool (the command-line program and MCP server). Contact: shreyassaw@gmail.com.
The short version
- The website sets no cookies, uses no analytics or tracking, and loads nothing from other websites.
- The tool runs on your computer, has no telemetry, and does not send what you do to us.
- We don't sell or share personal information, and we don't have accounts, forms or mailing lists.
The website
The site is static and hosted by Vercel Inc. (United States). To deliver and protect the site, Vercel processes standard request data for every visit: IP address, browser user agent, the page requested and the time. Vercel keeps this data for a short period under its own privacy policy. We do not use it to identify or profile visitors.
| Category | What | Why | Kept |
|---|---|---|---|
| Server logs | IP address, user agent, page, time | Delivering and securing the site (legitimate interest) | Short-term, by Vercel |
| Cookies and local storage | None | – | – |
| Analytics, pixels, session replay | None | – | – |
Links to other sites (for example GitHub or npm) are governed by those sites' own policies once you follow them.
The tool
Mock Anything runs locally. Twins keep their data in memory on your computer and forget it when they stop, unless you turn on saving with --persist or --state: then it is written to a file on your computer that only your user account can read (by default in ~/.mockanything/state), until you delete it. Nothing you send to a twin is sent to us. The tool makes network requests only in these cases:
- Installing or updating it through npm (governed by npm's terms and privacy policy).
- Looking up an API by name: for popular APIs it downloads the provider's own published API description from the provider's site or code repository (for example GitHub); for others it downloads the public directory from api.apis.guru and then the API description from the address listed there. Those servers see your IP address. Downloads are cached in
~/.mockanything/cache. - Loading a URL you give it (an API description, or a documentation page when you or your agent use
mockanything docsortwin_from_docs). That server sees your IP address. - Running
mockanything verify: it sends test requests to the real provider's API with the test key you supply, under your own agreement with that provider. The provider sees those requests and your IP address. Nothing is sent to us, and the report it writes holds field names and codes only. - Webhooks you configure, which go to addresses on your own machine unless you allow other hosts.
The tool masks keys and card numbers in its local logs and dashboard. HAR recordings you load are read on your computer only; the twin keeps field names and shapes from them, not header values or text. Running twins write their address and a local access token to ~/.mockanything/running, readable only by your user account, and remove it when they stop. Please use test data only.
